Construction of the world's largest telescope starts in Australia
Construction has begun on the world's largest telescope, which will be used to explore the mysteries of the universe. The telescope will be able to detect very faint radio signals coming from billions of light years away and will operate in the frequency range of 50 MHz to 25 GHz.
It is being built in Western Australia and will be completed in 2028. Funding for the project, which is expected to cost $1.055 billion, will be provided by 16 countries led by 8 countries. The telescope will have 131,000 antennas and 200 "dishes" and is expected to be used by astronomers for 50 years.
