Hackers Threaten to Sell Data of 40 Million Twitter Users Unless Company Buys it to Avoid Fines

Hackers recently stole the data of over 40 million Twitter users and put it up for sale on the dark web, a part of the internet that is not accessible to the general public and even intelligence agencies have difficulty accessing. The data for sale includes the emails and phone numbers of several high-profile individuals, such as Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Bollywood actor Salman Khan. The hackers have threatened Twitter management to buy the data themselves or face fines from governments around the world. There has been no confirmation or denial from the Twitter administration about the data breach, which is said to have occurred in 2021 due to an error in the company's server. IT experts believe that the stolen data is from 2021 to 2022. The dark web is a market where illegal activities such as the sale of weapons, drugs, and women, as well as sex crime videos and sensitive information, occur.
