India requires single charging port for all smartphones

India has announced that it will require all mobile devices to use a USB Type-C charging port by March 2025. The Bureau of Indian Standards has mandated that a single charger and cable must be used for all mobile phones.

This rule will apply to all companies. Previously, the European Union also mandated the use of USB charging ports for all mobile devices by December 2024. Currently, smartphones use different standards for charging, such as microUSB or USB-C ports for Android phones and Lightning connectors for Apple iPhones. Apple may introduce a USB port for its iPhones in 2023 in response to the European Union's law
